Nothing's quite landing.

For 10+ years I have designed digital products, from the first question to the version people rely on. Some from nothing, some inside teams where the product was already running and had to keep running.

Teams call me when the shipping is fine and the product still is not landing. I work out what it is actually for, design it, and leave a system underneath so the next decision is cheaper than the last.

I work independently and remotely, so you get the person doing the work.

Why leaders hire me? Five reasons below.

Hero Journey Club brings real therapy to neurodivergent teens inside Minecraft, where they already are. I led product and design systems, and built what engineers could ship straight from.

Getting a neurodivergent teen into support is not about whether help exists. It is about whether they go. A room, a stranger, a label. That is where it stops. Hero Journey Club, backed by a16z games, moved the session into Minecraft and Discord, where the kid already is. I designed everything a parent or kid touches: the design system engineers build against, the quiz and checkout, the onboarding that carries a kid to their first session. Parents were abandoning checkout because they would not commit before asking their kid, so we made asking part of the flow and let them hold their place.

“There was a very clear before and after when you joined. A lot of design work creates more friction for engineering. Yours removes it. That's rare.”

Penny gives women in Ireland a pension that moves with them. I designed it end to end, product and system, so a woman can start one in minutes and keep it in her pocket

40% of women in Ireland have no pension, and not because they are not thinking about the future. The product was never built for them: tied to an employer, written in language nobody chose, set up as if you already understood it. Penny is a PRSA, so it belongs to the woman rather than the job and moves with her through every career break. I designed the signup that takes her from nothing to a live pension, the app she manages it in, and the employer side for companies enrolling teams. Contributions change, jobs change, people stop and start, so most of the work went into the system underneath, and the Central Bank regulates pensions, so every click that disappeared had to be argued for.

Sennep makes complicated products feel simple, and a large retail broker asked them to do it for trading on a phone. I came in as their systems and product design partner, and the app we built ended up improving the desktop platform beside it

Trading moved to the phone and a generation arrived with it, people who had never used a desktop platform and never would. The broker saw the demand, but its product was built for a different customer on a different screen, and the problems it had carried for years showed up worse on a small one. I worked it from research to interface: who this new trader is and what they came to do, then a native app built for exactly that rather than a desktop platform squeezed down. Trading is dense and unforgiving, so a design system made a heavy interface repeatable across every screen and state. The best part came last: what we solved for mobile answered problems the main platform had carried for years.

“A fantastic designer and a natural team player. His energy keeps everyone motivated!”

I’m a designer, advisor, therapist… think of me as partner for the entire ride

The journey from seed to sprout is intense, and I am here for every up and down along the way. I show up in three modes depending on what the moment needs, sometimes all three at once: product thinking, strategic clarity, and design judgment working in tandem.

Hello world...

I am Fábio. For 10+ years I have designed digital products, from the first idea to the version people rely on. I work independently and remotely so you get the person doing the work.

As a designer, I turn direction into a product and the system that holds it up. Complexity belongs in the structure, not on the screen. As a thinking partner, I help work out what is worth building at all.

Together we find what your product is really for, and then we make it.

With love,
Fábio

I help founders and product teams with definition, direction, craft and judgment

Dunno what to say here, mmmm

Product Definition

Deciding what is worth building

Product Strategy

A direction the team can build to

Product Design

Craft to the highest level

Product Leadership

Holding direction and growing design teams

Design System

Building blocks for scale

Agentic Design

AI native design process

[ 04 ]

I gather, generate, craft and ship. Moving from chaos to clarity.

Design changed and the process changed with it. The hard part is no longer making the thing, it is deciding which thing is worth making. I work agentically, so the volume comes from the models and the judgement stays with me.

01

Gather

Everything you know goes in, and I steer until the direction surfaces. Context is what makes the rest of it accurate.

02

Generate

Options on the table as working prototypes, not slides. Decisions unlock faster when people can use the thing.

03

Craft

A model gets something out fast. Craft is what makes it stick, and that part stays in my hands.

04

Ship

It lands as a system your team can build on, so the next thing is cheaper than the last one.

[ 05 ]

Lastly, I help decide whats worth building and turn speed into velocity

I work with those willing to trade shortcuts for clarity and build the confidence to keep going long after the noise fades. We sit down, I question, I listen and we define. From then on, the execution starts and we turn your speed into velocity using design in its full form.

[ The New Paradigm ]

Velocity is progress toward something specific. A company can have real speed and almost no velocity, moving quickly toward nothing in particular and arriving somewhere nobody chose.

Direction is the part that did not get cheaper. Judgement did not either, and the more of it you hand to a model, the more it costs you further down. That is the gap I work in.

01

Clarity

We settle what the product is for before anything gets built, so the team has something to build toward.

02

Judgement

The machine makes the options. Knowing which one is any good, and throwing the rest away, stays human.

03

Craft

The final pass is what people trust. It is the part that does not come out of a model.

04

Systems

Once something works it becomes a system, so every decision after it is cheaper than the one before.

Questions worth answering

Frequently asked questions and answers that can help you book the first call with confidence. Any additional questions, send them my way.

What does a senior product designer actually do?

I work on design in its full form. What a product is for, who it is for, and the decisions it should never have to make twice. Sometimes that means shaping product decisions alongside your team. Sometimes it means designing the product itself. Always direction first.

Do you only design, or do you help decide what to build?

Who do you work with?

If AI can build anything, why do I need a designer?

Do you replace my design team?

How do you work with engineers?

Why does a design system matter?

Do you work with our existing design system, or start fresh?

How do engagements work?

How do I know it is working?

What do I get out of a first call?

How do we start?
